Hi, I’m Janice.
I’m an artist and educator living in Berkshire County, Massachusetts. My artwork explores the beauty of utility. I enjoy creating forms that elevate everyday materials. My interests in architecture, memory, and the corrosive effects of time drive my compositions.
The dissonance between the materials I use and the way they are displayed serves to emphasize the aesthetic quality of ordinary matter. The contradiction of layering and revealing materials is an important part of my work. Materials related to masonry are some of my favorites, combined with textiles, metals, or small found objects. My subject matter often relates to existing structures—both the naturally occurring and the human-built.
I have an MFA in Studio Art from University at Albany (SUNY) and an MS in Building Conservation from RPI. My past experiences in design and preservation have served to expand my understanding and appreciation of architectural and finish materials, which has been very influential in my artwork.
Thank you for visiting my website.
